Marine Paint Manufacturers
Salt, moisture and constant immersion are about as hostile an environment as a coating can face. As specialist marine paint manufacturers, we produce protective coatings for narrowboats, canal barges, leisure craft and commercial vessels from our Wolverhampton facility.
Everything from anti-corrosive primers and epoxy hull coatings through to deck finishes and bilge paints. We work with boat owners, boatyards and marine contractors who need a coating system they can genuinely rely on. Not just one that looks good in the tin.

Marine Paint Suppliers
As UK marine paint suppliers who manufacture their own products, we can offer something most distributors can’t. A direct conversation with the team that formulated the coating you’re buying. That matters when you’re working with a steel narrowboat that’s spent 20 years on the cut. Or a commercial vessel where hull integrity isn’t negotiable.
Our marine range covers every stage of the coating system. From surface preparation through to finishing coats, across steel, aluminium, fibreglass and timber substrates.
Marine coatings we manufacture and supply:
- Anti-corrosive primers, including two-pack epoxy high-build and zinc-rich options
- Two-pack epoxy topcoats for hulls and below-waterline protection
- Black bitumen for bilges, keels and submerged metalwork
- Non-slip deck paint and Eurothane 2 deck coatings
- Fibreglass primer and single-pack brushing enamels
To discuss which system suits your vessel, call our technical team directly. We’ll work through the spec with you.

Boat Paint Manufacturers
The right boat paint for a fibreglass sailing yacht is very different to what you’d put on a working steel narrowboat. Getting that wrong is an expensive lesson. Different substrates absorb and hold coatings differently, flex under load differently, and face different patterns of wear and exposure. So the formulation has to match the vessel.
We supply coatings for the full spread of leisure and commercial craft. Our team can advise on the correct primer and topcoat combination based on what your boat is made of, where it sits and how it’s used.
Vessel types and substrates we regularly work with:
- Narrowboats and canal barges: typically steel, requiring robust anti-corrosive systems
- Timber boats: flexible coatings that move with the wood without cracking
- Fibreglass and GRP hulls: adhesion-primed systems for smooth, hard-wearing finishes
- Aluminium craft: specialist etch primers to prevent galvanic corrosion
- Commercial and working vessels: heavy-duty epoxy systems for continuous use

Marine Coatings for Harsh and Submerged Environments
Standard paint formulations simply aren’t built to cope with permanent water immersion or the corrosive effect of saltwater. Which is where specialist marine coatings earn their place. Below the waterline in particular, a coating failure doesn’t just mean a poor finish; it means rust, osmosis or structural degradation that’s costly to put right.
Our marine coatings are formulated with exactly these conditions in mind. The bilge and below-waterline products in our range use black bitumen and epoxy chemistry to create a waterproof, corrosion-resistant barrier. It holds up in environments where moisture and oxygen are in constant contact with the substrate.
Specific protection our marine coatings provide:
- Waterproof barrier for hulls, bilges and submerged structural components
- Anti-corrosive protection for steel in both fresh and saltwater environments
- UV and weather resistance for topsides and superstructure coatings
- Chemical and oil resistance for engine rooms and working areas
- Impact and abrasion resistance for areas subject to debris or mooring wear
If your vessel operates in particularly demanding conditions, send us your requirements. We’ll put together the right coating specification.

FAQS
Can I apply marine paint over existing antifouling without stripping it back?
Applying marine paint over existing antifouling depends on the condition and compatibility of what’s already there. If the existing antifouling is sound and not flaking, a compatible system can sometimes go over the top. After a good clean and light abrasion. However, if there’s significant build-up or incompatible chemistry, stripping back to bare substrate gives a far better long-term result.
What’s the best way to paint a steel narrowboat hull?
Steel narrowboats require thorough surface preparation before painting:
- Grit blast or wire brush the surface to remove rust and old coatings.
- Apply a zinc-rich or epoxy primer as soon as possible after preparation to prevent flash rusting.
- Finish with two to three coats of a two-pack epoxy topcoat for long-term below-waterline protection.
Our team can recommend the complete coating system for your application.
How often does boat paint typically need reapplying?
Reapplying boat paint varies significantly depending on the product used, the environment and how the vessel is operated.
- Hull coatings on continuously moored boats in freshwater can last three to five years with good surface preparation.
- Topside finishes exposed to UV radiation and weathering may require more frequent repainting.
- Working vessels operating in saltwater typically require shorter maintenance and recoating intervals.
Is epoxy or polyurethane better for boat topsides?
Both epoxy and polyurethane are used on boat topsides, but for different purposes.
Epoxy provides excellent adhesion and corrosion protection, making it an ideal primer or undercoat. However, it can chalk with prolonged UV exposure if left as the final finish.Polyurethane (PU) enamel topcoats offer superior gloss retention and colour stability in sunlight, making them the preferred choice for visible above-waterline surfaces.
Can you colour match marine paint to BS or RAL standards?
Yes, our full marine paint range is available in any
RAL Classic colour,
as well as BS 4800 and BS 381C references. Every order is mixed to your specification. If you’re matching an existing colour on your vessel, our team can work from a colour code or a physical sample to achieve the closest possible match.
