FAQS
Can roof paint stop a roof from leaking?
Roof paint isn’t a substitute for repairing structural damage. However, a well-applied coating creates a seamless waterproof barrier that seals minor cracks and fixing points. It significantly reduces the risk of water ingress on metal and fibreglass roofs. Though any existing leaks should be properly repaired before coating.
Will roof paint reduce condensation inside a building?
Yes, to an extent, roof paint will reduce condensation inside a building. Roof coatings with reflective or insulating properties can reduce temperature fluctuations on the roof’s underside. This helps minimise condensation build-up. This is particularly beneficial in metal-roofed warehouses and agricultural buildings where condensation drip is a common issue.
Can you paint over rusted metal roofing?
Light surface rust can be treated, but heavily corroded areas need to be cleaned back to bare metal before painting. Our anti-corrosive primers are designed to be applied to properly prepared rusted surfaces. They create a stable barrier before topcoating for a durable, long-term finish.
How many coats of roof paint do I need?
Most roof coating systems require a primer coat followed by two topcoats for full protection and an even finish. The exact number depends on the substrate condition, the product used and the level of exposure the roof faces. So check the technical data sheet for guidance.
Is roof paint different for flat roofs compared to pitched roofs?
The coating itself isn’t necessarily different between flat roofs and pitched roofs. However, flat roofs hold standing water longer, so they need a fully waterproof, UV-stable system such as fibreglass roof coatings. Pitched metal roofs shed water faster but face greater wind and weather exposure.
